Art of Movement Bristol offers Brazilian Jiu Jitsu lessons in Bristol, for both children and adults. We are an independent school with a family feel. Our Brazilian jiu-jitsu classes are more than just that, they are a chance to grow not only your skills but your confidence. Learn BJJ in Bristol UK

We deliver 2h classes for adults every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (Gi*) at 6:00 PM and a 1.5h no-Gi class every Saturday morning at 9:00 AM. *Gi is the BJJ word/ uniform for kimono.

 

Our adult classes are open to all levels, including beginners.
 

There is no fitness level required to start Brazilian Jiu-jitsu.

Art of Movement Bristol is the only martial art club in Bristol following the Mendes Brothers curriculum, 10 X world Champions.

A usual class will be structured the following way :

  • Warm up with BJJ drills

  • Breakdown of techniques, practise with a partner

  • Rolling at the end of class.

  • After class, students are welcome to stay and join Professor Rad for breathing practice and further advice.

We run regular seminars in our Bristol club and launched our first BJJ seminar with Nick the Tooth Gullo, 2X Black belt world champion from the AOJ (Art of Jiu Jitsu - Mendes Brothers) academy.

Professor Marcelo Coppa, fourth degree black belt in Clevedon, also delivers regular seminars in our Bristol club.

BJJ near me

Our classes are delivered in central Bristol, near the Lawrence Hill train station. There is easy off-street parking around the club and our main entrance is via the double red doors on Church street.

Our BJJ classes are run by our Black belt instructor, Professor Rad.


Professor Rad has over 22 years of experience in martial arts. He has been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 2006, is a black belt in Capoeira, a Level 3 Personal trainer and is CRB checked.

Professor Rad also offers one-to-one sessions focusing on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for beginners

Our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu lessons are friendly, technical, inclusive and open to all levels especially beginners! If you feel like you aren’t experienced enough to join class, please don’t worry ! There will always be a higher belt to help you go through new moves and sequences or someone ready to explain what BJJ is all about and to answer all your questions.

 

There is never a silly question to ask so please don’t be shy to ask question before, during or after class.
As our professor would say : « A black belt is a white belt who never gives up».

We offer new students a free taster class to allow them to get familiar with beginner moves.  

 

There is no age restriction or fitness level required to start BJJ with us. Our club prides itself for promoting a healthy lifestyle in a family friendly environment. We believe a great club is all about the people.

Women and BJJ

Meet our AOM mascot

Last but not least, you will be pleased to meet our AOM mascot, Rickson Beau  (named after Rickson Gracie, Brazilian 9th-degree red belt in Gracie Jiu-Jitsu and a retired mixed martial artist).

 

Rickson Beau is an integral part of the club and likes to greet people on arrival. He has a lot of energy but is a very friendly Frenchie!

 

If you aren’t comfortable with dogs, not to worry, we always keep him on the leash during class.

If you are ready to book your BJJ free class, you can quickly do so via our booking page. We will provide a Gi if you do not have one. All you need to do is wear sports underwear and plan to wear a t-shirt under your Gi. If you already have one, please bring it with you. We will look after the rest!
