Art of Movement Bristol offers weekly self defence classes for teenagers and adults in central Bristol. We are an independent school with a family feel, offering a safe and caring environment where everyone can learn surrounded by a supportive team. โ€‹โ€‹At Art of Movement Bristol, we aim to teach the fundamentals of self-defence via weekly classes. Our Self defence curriculum is inspired by Master Rickson Gracie's method and the Gracie family.  Our self defence classes focus on:โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹

  • Building Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) Principles

  • Real-world scenarios

  • Mindset and strategies: focusing on the mental aspect of self-defence, emphasizing the importance of calmness, awareness, and strategy

  • Adaptability for all ages and abilities

  • Holistic approach: encouraging students to students to focus on their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

We deliver one, 1H self defence class for adults every Thursday 6:00 PM.

Our classes are designed to help you build the skills, fitness, and mindset necessary to effectively protect yourself in various situations, while gradually improving your abilities week by week. 

Our classes are open to all levels, including beginners. There is no fitness level required to start self defense.

Our classes are delivered in central Bristol, near the Lawrence Hill train station. There is easy off-street parking around the club and our main entrance is on Church street via the double red doors. 

โ€‹โ€‹Self defence for beginners

Our Self defence classes are friendly, technical, inclusive and open to all levels especially beginners.  
If you feel like you aren’t experienced enough to join class, please don’t worry. There will always be someone with more experience to help you go through new moves and sequences or someone to answer all your questions.

There is no age restriction or fitness level required to start our self defence class. Our club prides itself for promoting a healthy lifestyle in a family friendly environment. We believe a great club is all about the people.

What to wear in self defence class

We recommend wearing comfortable, flexible clothing that allows for a full range of motion: Leggings/ joggers and a fitted t-shirt. Please avoid loose or baggy clothes such as harem trousers.
