Children's Classes & Additional Support Policy

Our Commitment

At Art of Movement Bristol, we believe martial arts should be welcoming, enjoyable and accessible to as many children as possible. We are committed to creating a positive, respectful and inclusive environment where every child feels supported, encouraged and able to learn at their own pace.

We welcome children of all backgrounds and abilities and will always do our best to make reasonable adjustments where possible.

Group Class Environment

Our children's classes are delivered in a group setting, with one instructor responsible for a group of children.

While we aim to support every child, we are not always able to provide the level of individual supervision or one-to-one support that some children may require to participate safely and positively within a group class.

For this reason, there may be occasions where a group class is not the most appropriate environment for a child's individual needs.

Sharing Information With Us

At the time of booking, we ask parents and guardians to let us know before their child's first class if they have any:

  • medical conditions

  • disabilities

  • neurodivergence (such as autism or ADHD)

  • allergies

  • behavioural needs

  • communication needs

  • sensory sensitivities

  • or any other additional support needs

The more information we have, the better we can understand your child's needs and discuss how we can best support them.

All information is treated sensitively and only shared with instructors where necessary to help support your child.

Working Together

If additional support needs are identified, a member of our team may contact you before your child's first class to discuss:

  • your child's individual needs;

  • any strategies that help them participate successfully;

  • the support we are able to provide within a group class; and

  • whether our classes are likely to be a suitable environment.

Our aim is always to work collaboratively with families to give children the best possible experience.

During Classes

Parents and guardians are encouraged to tell us if their child's needs change over time or if there is anything happening outside of class that may affect their participation.

Open communication helps us provide the best possible support.

Our Responsibilities

Art of Movement Bristol will:

  • treat every child with dignity and respect;

  • promote a welcoming environment;

  • make reasonable adjustments where possible;

  • communicate openly with parents about the support we can provide;

  • regularly review our practices to improve the experience for all children.

When We May Be Unable to Offer a Place

In some circumstances, we may decide that we are unable to safely meet a child's needs within one of our group classes.

If this happens, we will always explain our reasons honestly and respectfully and discuss any alternative options that may be available.

This decision is never based on a diagnosis alone, but on whether we can safely provide an appropriate experience for both the child and the rest of the class.

Questions

If you would like to discuss your child's individual needs before booking, we encourage you to contact us.

We are always happy to have a conversation and answer any questions.
