Why people train Capoeira?
Capoeira has many benefits for kids and adults, whether you are a beginner or more experienced:
Cultural connection: Capoeira has deep roots in Brazilian history and African culture. People often train Capoeira to connect with and celebrate this cultural heritage. The martial art originated among African slaves in Brazil and has evolved into a unique cultural expression that combines elements of dance, acrobatics, and music.
Be part of a community: Capoeira is often practiced in a group setting, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie among participants. Many people appreciate the social aspect of Capoeira training, building friendships with fellow practitioners and participating in community events.
Improve your fitness: Capoeira is a physically demanding activity that involves a combination of dynamic movements. Training in Capoeira provides an excellent full-body workout, improving strength, flexibility, agility, and cardiovascular fitness.
Artistic Expression: Capoeira is often referred to as a "game" or "play," emphasizing the artistic and expressive nature of the practice. Participants enjoy the freedom of movement, creativity, and self-expression that Capoeira allows, making it a form of physical art.
Musical Component: Capoeira is accompanied by traditional music, played on instruments such as the berimbau, atabaque, and pandeiro. You will learn to play these instruments and sing traditional songs, adding a musical and rhythmic dimension to your training.
What is Capoeira?
Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art created by slaves in Brazil. Illegal for many years and legalised in 1934, Capoeira is now popular all over the world. Capoeira combines elements of fight, dance, movements, music and singing.
Capoeiristas (people playing capoeira) will tell you that Capoeira is more than a sport, it’s a lifestyle and a way of life where you learn multiple skills: Physical, mental, musical, linguistic (as you learn Brazilian Portuguese) and cultural by learning about the extended Afro-Brazilian culture.
Music is a key element in Capoeira. Music sets the rhythm, the style of play, and the energy of a game.
